Sep 2023 - Professional Development

An essential element of professional development is maintaining relevance. Relevance in this sense means an “active connection” from the Capture Managers to the contract and competitor environments they are operating in.  This active connection is an important enabler for identifying and understanding environmental changes that have, or will have, significant impacts on competitive positioning, acquisition processes and so forth.

Examples of contract and competitor environmental changes that could have significant impacts include the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in proposal development, changes to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), emerging acquisition trends such as Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contracts and company mergers and acquisitions.

The simplest way to keep an active connection – and thus remain relevant, is through professional reading.  There are several Governmental organizations that provide free, real time news updates online. Examples of these online resources include:

Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Acquisition News

https://www.dau.edu/

General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) News

Small Business Administration (SBA) Newsroom

BD leaders should challenge all of their professionals to take advantage of resources like these for both their professional growth and the positive impact it has on BD operations.
